About EMDR &

Brainspotting Therapy

Transforming Trauma at the Root

Living with trauma can feel like being trapped in the past — painful memories, body sensations, and emotions replay again and again, even when you want to move forward. Approaches like talk therapy often help with insight but may not fully resolve the stuck places in the nervous system.

That’s where EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and Brainspotting come in. These therapies are designed to go beyond talking, working directly with the brain and body to release trauma at its source.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly researched trauma therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories. Using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR activates the brain’s natural healing capacity.
• Traumatic memories that once felt overwhelming can be “re-stored” in the brain in a way that no longer floods or retraumatizes.
• Clients remain grounded in the present while processing the past.
• EMDR often brings relief more quickly than traditional talk therapy alone.

How EMDR Helps CPTSD, PTSD, and BPD:
• CPTSD & PTSD: reduces flashbacks, nightmares, and triggers by helping the brain file traumatic experiences where they belong — in the past.
• BPD: decreases emotional intensity and reactivity by addressing underlying trauma that drives dysregulation and relationship fears.

What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a newer trauma therapy that uses the visual field to locate where trauma is stored in the body and brain. By focusing on a specific “brainspot” - an eye position connected to unresolved trauma - the nervous system can release the frozen survival responses that keep people stuck.

• Brainspotting accesses the subcortical brain, where trauma often lives beyond words.
• Clients process in a mindful, body-centered way, often with deep emotional or somatic release.
• Like EMDR, it bypasses pure talk therapy to allow healing on a deeper level.
Sound Healing Bowls
How Brainspotting Helps CPTSD, PTSD, and BPD:
• CPTSD & PTSD: calms hypervigilance, reduces body-based trauma triggers, and softens emotional flashbacks.
• BPD: supports healing attachment wounds by accessing vulnerable parts that hold fear of abandonment or rejection, often with profound self-compassion.

Why Combine These Approaches?
Every client is unique. Some respond more strongly to EMDR, others to Brainspotting, and many benefit from a blend. Both therapies complement other modalities such as Trauma-Focused DBT, IFS (Internal Family Systems), Somatic Experiencing, and even Ketamine-Assisted Therapy.

Together, these approaches provide:
• A safe, structured way to process trauma.
• Relief from triggers and emotional overwhelm.
• Increased self-regulation and inner calm.
• Space for authentic relationships and self-compassion to grow.

Healing is Possible
Whether you live with CPTSD, PTSD, or BPD, you don’t have to stay stuck in cycles of pain and survival mode. EMDR and Brainspotting can help you release trauma at the root, so you can reconnect with yourself and your life in new ways.

I pride myself in being a strong, motivated, intelligent individual. But I always felt as if my emotional dysregulation (due to BPD) was holding me back from being my “best” self. First Megan and I began working with DBT where I have learned many valuable skills on how to accept myself, listen and act in alignment with my values instead of the ingrained thoughts triggering intense emotions.

Once I built up my skills and a strong relationship with Megan we set out to get to the root with PTSD-DBT. This therapy was no joke and took some intense work. Megan was great along the entire process. She provided the right combination to guide me towards growth. She was there to quench all of my anxieties, supporting me through the arduous process, listening when I needed some space and finally pushing me to not quit! I am so grateful to have gone through the journey to come out a free individual, with the clarity to now heal the wounds that so heavily weighed me down. Not only do I notice an improvement, but I was able to reconnect important relationships and hear responses like “You are calmer” & “you have matured”. I will not claim to be a perfect human, but definitely a skilled, lighter, more self-confident one!
